Text: Over a quarter of YouTube’s bandwidth is used handling its comments system. YouTube recently initiated it’s “Weak User Purge” program. Don’t worry, you’re probably safe. The program uses a points system for each user. YouTube is keeping the exact formula a secret, but I believe it involves a mixture of comment votes, and spelling. For votes, it checks the overall number of “thumbs down” a user’s comments have gotten. For spelling, it runs a spell-check on every comment, and measures the overall quality of spelling. If a user scores poorly enough in both of these categories, YouTube bans them. It’s a temporary IP ban, so you can’t register a new account for 4 months. I’ve tested the system on other accounts and computers. It’s frighteningly accurate at detecting poor commenting habits. Personally, I haven’t decided whether I support these measures. But again, I’m sure most of you won’t be hit by the system. Just comment intelligently, and you should be safe. No sweat. Good luck!
