Word filters

Due to Lemon Demon mastermind Neil Cicierega’s dislike of poor spelling and grammar, several popular Internet abbreviations have been discouraged by use of word filters on the Lemon Demon forum. Over time, other filters have been added by moderators.

• lolz: “delicious lobsters”
• lulz: “Nazis”
• nigger: “honky cracker”
• niggers: “Linux”
• omfg: “On My Father’s Grave”
• OMG: “Ow, My Groin”
• plz: “plesiosaurus”
• thx: “Go Wildcats”
• ur: “Captain Planet’s”
• Niel: “Ryan Murphy” (To discourage misspellings of Neil’s name.)
• lvoe: “albatross”
• albatross: “jenkem”
• Amen: “Jack Nicholson”
• emo: “Nemo”
• epically: “Barack Obamally”
• wth: West Tennessee Healthcare
• LOL: SOS

Retired filters

On June 7th, 2007, many members expressed their discontent at some of the filters’ tendencies to mess with perfectly reasonable text. On this day two of them were removed.

Counter-filters

Certain filters were set up for the specific purpose of allowing those in the know to evade the single-letter filters when necessary. Though they are not needed anymore, they remain for the purpose of not messing up old posts (with the exception of plank -> U, which was deemed annoying).

From time to time, something is censored as part of a running joke.

Talk Like A Pirate Day

On International Talk Like A Pirate Day 2007, Faerykore added some filters for the occasion, two of them former filtered words, one of them a near-direct reinstatement.

There are a few filters with direct practical purposes to serve as macros and whatnot

• developer7.org/ldshare2k: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (to block out links to the former LDShare2K, which was entirely replaced with redirects to Last Measure)
• Audible Radio: AUDIBLE Radio (After it was decided that “AUDIBLE Radio” was the official name but that “Audible Radio” was easier to type.)
• trapezoid.hostdime.com and azuretek.com/~neilcic: lemondemon.com (to correct intraforum links from the forum’s previous two locations)
• url=wiki:: url=http://wiki.illemonati.com/ (For interwiki-style short linking.)
